DAY 3 OF 7

Day 3 – Joy

'Joy comes in the morning time’
‘I won’t worry, I’ve got Jesus’

If we’ve got God, we’ve got joy. Joy is a humble reminder that our source is God. Through him, we draw our strength. If it were up to us and life’s turmoil, we would be miserable. Oftentimes, joy seems unattainable for us even as believers because many of us don’t know what it truly means to be joyful. We confuse ‘joy’ with a reaction or consequence of things or events that make us happy. Happiness is an emotion; joy is an inward peace and contentment which can be felt through spirit and soul. Happiness is an outward expression influenced by our circumstances. For example, ordering a Chinese takeaway or finding my favourite film to watch on Netflix, then putting my feet up on a Saturday night is true happiness for me.

The word ‘joy’ appears many times in the Bible. We see it, we hear it, and we even sing about it.

'Joy comes in the morning time’

When writing this chorus, I was focused on Psalm 30:5. The joy that David speaks of in this verse is a joy that can only be found in God. It is a deep, heartfelt confidence, hope and assurance that we have in Jesus which promises better days. Happiness is fleeting; a temporary emotion that comes and goes. Joy is rooted in our understanding of Gods power, strength, and ability to do miracles in our life (Psalm 4:7).

‘When it was hard, I drew near
Hearing his voice made it clear
He is with me’

God promises fullness of joy. Joy can only be given by the Holy Spirit who lives inside of us. For some of you that are reading and want to know how you too can experience it, drawing near to Him and being in his presence brings us joy. In His presence you’re able to hear from Him, speak with Him and rely on Him. (Psalm 16:11)

Here are a few tips on how you can have real long lasting and spirit-filled joy:

- Rejoice always - Philippians 4:4

- Stay in the word of God daily - Psalm 119:11

- Sing out - Psalm 95:1-2

- Surrender to God fully - James 4:7

- Be grateful -1 Chronicles 16:34

About this Plan

The Art of Submission

This plan seeks to unwrap what it truly means to submit to God and what that looks like for us as his children. The bible plan is inspired by Gospel singer, Uchenna’s new EP titled The Art Of Submission. The plan speaks on themes such as faith, trust, and God's love and how each of these plays a part in how we submit to his will for us.
