Day 2: Christian Roles as Family Members
Don’t misinterpret the underlying theme of this devotional – family is important and needed! There are clear family roles defined for us throughout the Holy Bible. As a gift from God, we are given family to help us cultivate fellowship and grow in love.
Relationships should provide security, purpose, confidence, wisdom, and validation. One way that we show God’s love for one another, is by how we take care of these relationships. We should handle them with respect, devotion, and genuine love. Otherwise, we do not show our Heavenly Father how grateful we are for the people and relationships placed into our lives. It is our responsibility to be aware of how each family role should be conducted to be pleasing to God.
Were you aware that Jesus gave us guidelines for relationships with family members? The difficulty here is that sin and evil in our world have a way of twisting relationships into ungodly ones. As you read the following bible verses, think of how it compares/contrasts to members of your own family.
Reflect on the following bible verses to identify deficits in your relationships and use these God-given guidelines to more closely align yourself with Christ's idea of specific family roles.
