Finding God in the DesertSample
Meet God in the Desert
When you hear the word 'desert', what pictures come to mind? Perhaps you might think of a very dry place, with a scorching sun burning down from a cloudless sky, where there is no shade, and a land engulfed with miles and miles of sand dunes. No one likes to be in such a kind of place.
Maybe, right now, you are going through such a desert journey, which might be in the form of betrayal, failure, hampered hopes, a delayed promotion, sickness, or rejection. Don’t lose hope, my friend.
Look at David: He penned Psalm 63 when his life was in danger, when he was fleeing from Absalom to the wilderness of Judah. One of the key lessons that we can learn from David is that His heart did not turn cold towards God even though conditions and circumstances seemed tough. He was prepared to meet His God in the desert.
In your desert journey, you need to remember to do these two important things to prepare to meet God.
1. Get rid of idols
- Things that have taken God’s place in your life. Get rid of those through sincere prayer and repentance.
2. Shake off the victim mentality.
- It is easy to blame others for the rough desert journey that you are going through today. Instead, see your position in God’s amazing grace.
Prayer:
Dear Father, I don’t know how long this journey is going to last. But I do know that you are with me. You will guide me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
