Family: It’s Time
1 Corinthians 1:10 - "I appeal to you, brothers, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgment."
While the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic gets further away from us, the ripples of 18 months of life-altering change still impact our lives in several ways.
Millions of families were now confined in the same house for months, revealing flaws in our relationships. At some point, we tried to stay busy working through our overdue to-do list but eventually ran out of things to keep busy. Then those little habits our loved ones did start to feel like nails on a chalkboard. We needed to carve out some solitude for ourselves, which created distance from those we unintentionally loved.
If only we could have taken some time to change our perspective of that time together.
We may want to think about our relationships, and while Covid created an extreme situation, it did shine a light on what may not have been working for a long time.
- We may need to sit down and talk through some of the rough patches that took place.
- Discuss what you learned from this time and make the necessary adjustments.
- You may need to get to know your family all over again based on what you've experienced.
- Start some healthy activities that will start to rebuild those relationships.
Family Building Exercises:
- Work on your communication
- Do not spend too much time apart
- Remember, these are people you love
- Do different activities together (dinner, games, movie, vacations)
- Pray for each other
- Discuss God's word with each other
- Share your life with each other (fears, interests, goals, etc.)
Uncommen Questions:
Did you and your family drift apart a little during Covid?
Did you and your family experience some relationship issues during Covid?
Do you need to rebuild some relationships?
Uncommen Challenge:
Reinvest in your relationships that may have taken a hit during Covid-19. This does serve as a reminder of how fragile a relationship can be if not maintained.
About this Plan
Even though it may not seem like it as we are trying to find our way in a pre/mid/post covid world, but we are STILL ON A MISSION—The Great Commission, that is. Our families, friends, work, church, and faith need us to reengage. We may be the only Jesus they see.
