My Hero: Healing From Wounds of a Father

DAY 11 OF 16

Day 11 - God’s Examples

This might be one of the easiest areas for us to be made whole again even if our earthly dad’s messed up.

In the Bible, God has provided countless examples of real people going through everyday life and the struggles that come along with it. We can see every type of situation imaginable and learn from the examples set forth. We should consider both the good and bad examples because we can learn from both.

From the good examples God provides, we learn what we should do. They provide the models we should follow. From the bad examples, we learn about pitfalls we should avoid. They alert us to potential mistakes.

Be on the lookout for people God provides who can fill in the gaps for our father’s lack of example. God is very creative in how He cares for us. So He can also provide other father figures for us. Coaches, teachers, pastors, older brothers, uncles, and moms can sometimes fill the role that a father should have.

That was one of the ways God helped me. There was always a father figure to pick me up at just the right time, but we have to be receptive to it. If I’m honest, sometimes I rejected or didn’t take full advantage of what my father figures were offering me. Stubbornly, I wanted things to be done my way. Once I accepted God’s way of helping me I finally learned from the examples He provided.

Has God provided any father figures in your life? If so thank Him for it.

About this Plan

My Hero: Healing From Wounds of a Father

Dads can be such important figures they seem almost larger than life, like superheroes. God gave us earthly fathers to be extensions of Him to provide protection, guidance, and love. When they don’t fulfill those expectations, it can cause deep wounding. This plan covers ways we can get healing from the wounds of a father.
