Being Challenge: An 11-Day Plan to Be Like Jesus

DAY 5 OF 11

Day 5: Keystone Habit 2: We Study Scripture

We closed yesterday by saying that our identity can help shape our habits. We live in a world where people are trying to figure out who they are. Personality tests like the Enneagram and StrengthsFinder are exploding in popularity.

Just about everyone knows what their love language is, and some people can even tell you what Disney princess they would be. In addition to personality tests, companies like ancestry.com and 23andMe.com are helping people discover more about themselves by looking at their family tree.

In our age of self-discovery, the best place to discover who you are is found in God's Word.

One of the biggest problems we face in this world is that we don't spend enough time hearing God's voice.

When we don't fill our minds and hearts with God's Word, it becomes easy for us to listen to the enemy's lies.

Those lies come in many forms, but Satan is a master at these two:

  1. lies about God; and
  2. lies about you.

When you read the Bible, you exchange the lies of the enemy for the truth of God. Here are some facts you find.

The TRUTH about God

You will read that God made you, and He loves you. He died to save and get back what already rightly belonged to Him. Jesus rose from the dead and forever conquered death so that one day when you take your last breath, it won't be the final word on your soul. He not only takes care of your daily needs, but He also has the power to restore mistakes you have made. He will reverse statements you have believed about yourself or that others have labeled you.

The TRUTH about you

You will learn in the Bible that you are now a rightful heir—a son or daughter to our God. Because you are called God's treasure, you will be treated as such. As a saved and redeemed person, this impacts everything that you are. It will change you from the inside out and make you into a new creation. You will see that God has great plans for you in this life, and He has a beautiful future for you in heaven. You will see fruit produced in your life: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. This fruit will impact and benefit. With that fruit comes a calling on your life to live in the world and make a difference.

As you read through the Scriptures today, focus on what God has done for you and who He has made you.

Challenge for the Day: Because of the importance of studying Scripture, commit to not only finish this reading plan but also to jump into another YouVersion Bible plan immediately after completing this one. Invite a friend to join you in finishing this plan and starting your next program. Which Bible reading plan will you do next?
