You Already Have - a 3-Day Devotional With Andrea OlsonSample
“So we will never fear, even if every structure of support were to crumble away. We will not fear even when the earth quakes and shakes, moving mountains and casting them into the sea. For the raging roar of stormy winds and crashing waves cannot erode our faith in you.”
I will not fear, the waiting is worth it
You will not fail, I know for certain
I lack for nothing, all I’ll ever need
You already have
Lyrics from “You Already Have”
We have established the importance of running our circumstances through the light of the Scriptures. Now, how do we live that out day-to-day? How do we live with certainty in God’s ability to provide, even in seasons of waiting? If recent times have tested anything, it’s our ability to live in faith that our Provider can and will come through in his perfect timing. It’s easy to say, but it is so hard to live out. Life is noisy. Many voices are vying for our attention. It’s challenging to know where to listen. Some of the voices out there are deceptively convincing, but we possess the power to discern the difference. With the help of the Holy Spirit and the truth of scripture, we remember that we hold the volume control. We can turn down the noise that brings confusion and turn up the truth that brings certainty.
Is the noise around you so loud that it’s increasingly difficult to discern truth? Friend, you are not alone. The world wants us to believe that waiting isn’t worth it. Or that it indicates failure. But that is the noise of confusion, which we hold the power to turn down. Our first action step is to identify what our noise is. Grab your journal and a pen and write down the things currently causing anxiety, fear, worry, or unnecessary distraction. What obstacles are you facing?
Now, we must bring these things into the light because we cannot surrender what we try to keep hidden. Remember, the truth of scripture is a light that brings clarity. So, to begin, pray Psalm 46:2-3 out loud, filling in the things you wrote down above where they fit.
For example:
I will never fear [the financial obstacles we have ahead, because] even if every structure of support were to crumble away…it will not erode my faith in you.
These steps are just the beginning. But my prayer is that you use these truths throughout your day to combat the noise that is bringing confusion. The more you fill your life with these truths, the less time you’ll have for noise, and eventually, it will fade into the background. And once the volume regulates to the point where truth is the loudest, we can live with certainty in our Provider. It doesn’t mean that everything will be perfect or turn out exactly how we ask. But it will not erode our faith in him because we can live sure that God already possesses everything we need no matter what is ahead. He always has. He always will. That is certain.
