The Miracle Called Israel

DAY 3 OF 7

I will do it

When the Lord speaks, the future is arranged.

In Genesis 41, Joseph hears Pharaoh say, “There is no one as discerning and wise as you, Joseph. You shall be over my house.” One of Jacob’s youngest children, little Joseph, is now going to rule over the Egyptians. Only Pharaoh was over him. When famine came, Joseph’s family, including his older brothers, had to come to Joseph for food to survive. It was then that the Lord’s Word to Rebekah came to pass also in Joseph; “the older shall serve the younger.” It was not only the elder Esau who served his little brother Jacob, also called Israel. In the next generation, the older sons also served the younger son, Joseph, when they moved to Egypt.

Years later, the king of Egypt died, and Jacob’s descendants, the children of Israel, cried out because of their bondage. God acknowledged them and remembered His everlasting covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. However, Israel didn’t worship God at that time because Israel didn’t know God—not even His name!

The Lord used the miracle of a burning bush to call Moses’ attention. The Lord later spoke to Moses and said, “I am the LORD, I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, as God Almighty, but by My name LORD I was not known to them. I have also established My covenant with them, to give them the land of Canaan, the land of their pilgrimage, in which they were strangers.” (Exodus 6:2–4)

The Lord added, “Moses, say to the children of Israel, ‘I am the LORD; I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, I will rescue you from their bondage, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with great judgments. I will take you as My people, and I will be your God. Then you shall know that I am the LORD your God who brings you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians. And I will bring you into the land which I swore to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; and I will give it to you as a heritage: I am the LORD.’” (Exodus 6:6–8)

After Moses brought the people of Israel through the desert, Joshua led them. Then the Lord gave Israel the land He had promised. They conquered it and lived there in peace. “Not a word failed of any good thing which the LORD had spoken to the house of Israel. All came to pass.” (Joshua 21:45)

Every time God made a promise, He kept it. You can trust Him. Israel is your insurance policy that God is faithful to His promises.
