Walk Through The Bible 365 - June

DAY 28 OF 31

Put On And Put Off

All of us change our clothes perhaps two or three times a day. There is a putting off and then a putting on. The Bible uses this as an illustration to encourage our spiritual growth. We are exhorted to 'put off' our old pre-believing way of life with its corrupt and deceitful desires and to 'put on' the new self of righteousness and holiness. Putting off and putting on of clothes are actions that we take, similarly, putting off our old desires and putting on righteousness are also actions that we need to take. And the Spirit of God in us strengthens us to do this, but the actions have to be ours to take. Let us as new creations in Christ continue to put off our old, pre-believing sinful practices and with the help of the Spirit, put on actions of love and holy living.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, strengthen us to enable us to turn away from our old sinful ways and to walk in righteousness before you. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
