Elijah. Man of Courage, Man of Faith, Man of God.

DAY 6 OF 22

God reigns over life and death

God’s power is immeasurable, limitless. He even reigns over death. So, when the widow’s son died, Elijah is right to ask God for help. Only He can save this child and comfort his mother.

The Lord listens to Elijah’s prayer and restores the boy to life again. This is a strong proof of God’s existence and power. It is also a source of hope, not only for Elijah and the widow, but for all who read this story. For this miracle is a foretaste of the great things God will do when Jesus will return. He has conquered death and will raise all his children to live with Him forever. Even though death seems invincible to us, we know that through Jesus’ death and resurrection, He has destroyed it. His life-giving power is greater than death!

Meanwhile, people die. Believers die. And this is horrible. God does not promise that He will raise our loved ones here and now; the Bible only records a few occasions where He did so. It is not without reason that the Bible calls death “the last enemy to be destroyed”. It is right to grieve about our loved ones, but since we know that Jesus will raise all who believe in Him, “you may not grieve as others do who have no hope” (1 Thessalonians 4:13).

Are you afraid to die? Why, or why not?

Day 5Day 7

About this Plan

Elijah. Man of Courage, Man of Faith, Man of God.

The Bible is full of stories about people who try to live to God's glory - with ups and downs. Elijah is such a man. He is a prophet who serves God wholeheartedly, but is also prone to despondency and depression. He confronts the king fearlessly, but flees from the queen. And in all this, God continues to care for His servant.
