"Sarah's Laughter"

God is a provider of good gifts. Sometimes, the gifts He gives us are so good that we are surprised or astonished upon receiving them. Sarah was so shocked by her gift of pregnancy that she laughed! When I think of God as the giver of good gifts, it reminds me of a childhood friend who would come to your birthday party and give you a present that is sure to make you laugh. This person has a history, intimacy, and relationship with you that helps them give a gift that will bring you joy. God knows what you need, what you want, what you have, and what will surprise you with laughter. He delights in us and in providing our inner desires.

When Sarah first heard that God wanted to give her a baby at 90, she laughed out of disbelief. God heard the doubt in Sarah’s laugh, but still returned to bless her with a child a year later. God’s promise prevailed and Sarah’s faithless laugh turned into a grateful exultation. God went far beyond her expectation and gave her the greatest desire of her heart.

The beauty in Sarah’s story is that God decided to bless her despite her lack of faith. Even though Sarah didn’t see herself as worthy to receive this gift, God did! Laughter is a sign of God’s goodness…whether we know it in the natural or are still waiting for it to manifest.
