Through the Bible: 1 Chronicles

DAY 10 OF 10

“Let Go”

Wealth and honor come from you; you are the ruler of all things. In your hands are strength and power to exalt and give strength to all. 1 Chronicles 29:12 (NIV)

We find through the reading of these chapters, that David, as he neared the sunset of his life, making all the preparation to build a House to keep the ark of the covenant of the Lord. However, the Lord makes it clear that it isn’t going to be David but his son Solomon who will build the house.

In obedience to God’s word, David while appointing Solomon as the next King, did what is quite difficult for many of us to do – to let go.

While passing on all the plans he had made for the Temple, David also gave from his own personal wealth despite knowing he was not going to accomplish what he wanted to. He wasn’t holding on to it, claiming it to be his own.

What’s important here is David’s clear understanding that everything ultimately belonged to God. May we examine our lives today and see if we are holding on to things that we should actually be letting go of.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me to remember that whatever I have is what you have given and it belongs to You. Enable me to give wholeheartedly at every given opportunity. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Day 9

About this Plan

Through the Bible: 1 Chronicles

Written in the postexilic period, the books of Chronicles present the history of Israel with a purpose very different from the other historical books like that of Books of Samuel and Kings - to remind the despairing remnants that God’s promise to bring forth a Messiah through the royal Davidic lineage still stands. Heaven and earth will pass away, but the LORD’s faithfulness endures forever.
