DAY 61 OF 92

Week 35

The LORD’s Everlasting Faithfulness

Psalm  92 & 93

We’re ensured to be reminded of God’s faithfulness and steadfast love by making a habit of spiritual disciplines, of which there are many. But four prevalent ones come to mind – worship, bible study, prayer and quiet time. All four of those can be incorporated into one.

The Psalmist here in Psalms 92 and 93 is focusing on worship – remembering who God is. He is merciful, faithful, His works are great, His thoughts are deep, He exalts the righteous. This Psalmist likens the righteous to trees.

Psalm 92:12-13 says, “The righteous flourish like the palm tree, and grow like a cedar in Lebanon. They are planted in the house of the Lord. They flourish in the courts of our God.”

Palm and cedar trees represent permanence and strength, and being planted in the house of the Lord keeps us in close relationship with God.  Psalm 1:1-3 also uses the analogy of a tree.

“Blessed is the man [whose…] delight is in the law of the Lord and on His law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.”

We want to be like trees deeply rooted in God’s Word, remembering who He is and that He reigns as king from everlasting to everlasting; the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. If we are deeply rooted as a follower of Jesus, when those trials come—and they will come—we might bend but we will not be uprooted or remain broken.

He contrasts the righteous with the wicked who are doomed to destruction forever. And remember our righteousness comes from Christ.  The Scripture says there is none righteous, but God placed the righteousness of Christ on us. Praise God for that today!

Family Connection: Did you know the tallest building in the world is in Dubai and it is 2,722 feet tall? It is 163 stories tall! That is huge. But did you know that the Bible tells us that the accomplishments of humans are small compared to God’s. What is the coolest thing God made? The star Sirius is almost 18,000 degrees! The Mariana Trench in the Pacific Ocean is over 36,000 feet deep. But God says the coolest thing ever made was YOU! He made us in His image and because of that His love for us is larger than we can ever imagine.
