Say No to Anxiety and FearSample
Cast Your Cares
Jesus knew what we would be facing in these days, so He left something for us: Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid (John 14:27).
Thankfully, you have everything you need to live an anxiety-free, fear-free life! Jesus did His part by putting His peace in you—now you do your part by casting every anxiety over onto Him. 1 Peter 5:7 says, casting all your cares on him, for he cares for you.
What does casting your cares and anxieties look like? Well, think of them as a suitcase. If you’re carrying the suitcase, I’m not carrying it. But if you “cast it over” (hand it over) to me, then I’m carrying it, and you don’t have the burden of it anymore. When you and I “carry” our own cares and anxieties, God can’t carry them. He can only carry them when we hand them over.
Casting your cares doesn’t mean to ‘cast and forget’ about them, because you can’t. It means ‘cast and believe over them.’ Recognize that an anxious or fearful heart begins with an anxious or fearful mind. Our thoughts are where we carry the cares of this world.
The good news is that you can do something about your thoughts. You can choose to focus them elsewhere. Because whatever you’re focused on gets bigger in your life. Are you focused on God, or on your troubles?
When you’re afraid, and weighted down with cares, you can’t run your race. The power of God can’t flow in your life. Living above fear, casting cares on God is not just for you, it’s for the harvest! It’s vital. God wants you in a state of readiness: ready to prosper; ready to minister; ready when trials come; ready to be led by the Spirit of God; ready to be a leader of hope and power. You can’t do that if you’re weighed down by cares and anxiety.
Jesus went to great lengths to take care of every problem, fear, and anxiety common to man. He doesn’t want you burdened! Determine to cast your cares on God.
