Unleash Your Faith at Work: Living a Fully Integrated Life

DAY 3 OF 5

Adopt a Kingdom Perspective

Most people have the attitude that work is hard. We hear “thank God it’s Friday,” but we rarely hear “thank God it’s Monday.” Think about the impact these mindsets have on our work when we look at Monday through Thursday as days to survive through until we get to the weekend. It’s no wonder so many people experience work as a drudgery rather than an enjoyable endeavor.

Unleashing the power of the Holy Spirit in our work can change all of that and help us to find joy, meaning and purpose in our work. This naturally produces a positive mindset so that, not only can you enjoy your work more, you naturally have access to greater creativity, energy and clarity that leads to producing superior results.

The Bible tells us in Romans 12:2 to not be conformed to this world, but to be transformed by the renewal of our minds so that we can discern the will of God. A kingdom perspective allows us to see the challenges, successes and substance of our work from God’s viewpoint so that we can find purpose and meaning in the work we do every day.

  • Fix your thoughts on the good. Look for the honorable, the excellent and the things that are worthy of praise and think about those things, as opposed to anything negative. This simple choice will help to create a more positive mindset each day.
  • Take every thought captive. Become aware of what you are thinking. Notice your thoughts and consciously commit to bringing them into obedience with God’s Word.
  • Give thanks. There is always something to be thankful for―the fact that you have a job, the people who support you, the skills God has blessed you with. When you cultivate an attitude of gratitude, you cultivate awareness of God’s presence in your work.

What will you do to adopt a kingdom perspective?

Prayer

Lord, help me to see my work through Your eyes. Help me to become more aware of the negative thoughts that affect my attitude at work and teach me to make my thoughts obedient to You. I thank you, Father God, that You want me to partner with You in my work. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
