Real Hope: The Book of Esther

DAY 5 OF 5

God Reigns Above Darkness

Time and time again in the Bible, God changes situations that look extremely dire, and flips them around for His glory.

Early in the book of Esther, everything looked to be going smoothly for Haman, one of the king’s court officials. He operated at a very high position, and the king’s subjects were required to bow to him whenever he would enter or exit the palace gates. But when we reach Esther 7 and 8, Esther pleaded with the king to spare her life and stop Haman’s plan to kill both her and every other Jew within the kingdom. The king reacted with anger, and suddenly Haman begged ‘Queen Esther for his life because he realised his king was planning something terrible for him’ (Esther 7:7). By the end of the chapter, Haman is hanged on the very gallows on which he had planned to hang Mordecai the Jew.

How is it that when thousands of Jews – God’s people – were facing certain death, and everything looked hopeless, that a change could take place allowing evil to be defeated?

God is always at work and remains sovereign over all things, similar to when Jesus was nailed to the cross; He turned the most grim of situations into a glorious victory over death. Praise God for His win, which is for us too.

Day 4

About this Plan

Real Hope: The Book of Esther

God used Esther, a seemingly ordinary girl, to change the fate of an entire nation. He perfectly position her to be a catalyst for change and to use her voice for justice. Our prayer for this plan is that through the life of Esther you will see and understand more fully the faithfulness and sovereignty of God.
