DAY 4 OF 8

Victories and Inheritance

And the Lord said to Joshua, "Do not be afraid of them, for tomorrow at this time I will give over all of them, slain, to Israel. You shall hamstring their horses and burn their chariots with fire."

Joshua 11:6 (ESV)

. . . I myself will drive them out from before the people of Israel. Only allot the land to Israel for an inheritance, as I have commanded you.

Joshua 13:6 (ESV)

But to the tribe of Levi Moses gave no inheritance; the Lord God of Israel is their inheritance, just as he said to them.

Joshua 13:33 (ESV)

Chapter 11 begins with an alarming threat—an aggressive opponent with both numerical and technological advantages. But God gave Joshua instructions and reminded him not to be afraid for He would give him the victory. Then we see how victories were given to Joshua as he did just as God had commanded.

Chapter 13 starts with another discouraging fact—Joshua was old, but there were still battles left unfinished. However, God emphasized that He Himself would drive out the enemies; the burden was on Him.

Life can be overwhelming at every turn. Yet God assures us that He is with us, provides, and wins these battles for us. The victories that He promised and delivered to the Israelites are great reminders of His faithfulness and goodness for us.  The inheritance of the land shows His provision, but the greatest blessing lies in the inheritance of Him—an intimacy that gives us true strength, joy, and peace.

Prayer:

Father God, thank You for Your victories and provision. Even when things on earth fail, we pray that You are the strength of our hearts and our portion forever. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

About this Plan

Through the Bible: Joshua

The book of Joshua records the Israelites’ conquest of the Canaanite Land and testifies of God’s faithfulness to His promise. Just as the author says in 21:45, “Not one of all the LORD's good promises to Israel failed; every one was fulfilled.” Similarly, when life hits hard, always remember to be strong and courageous and cling onto God’s promises. Sooner or later, all will come to pass.
