DAY 3 OF 12

Christian Living

Listen, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord alone. And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength. And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today. Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up. Tie them to your hands and wear them on your forehead as reminders. Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates…For we will be counted as righteous when we obey all the commands the Lord our God has given us.
Deuteronomy 6:4-9;25 (NLT)

God gave the Israelites, the laws to help them live a life pleasing to God. To us who have Christ in our hearts, they serve as guidelines. We are comfortable decorating houses with scripture or wearing them on ourselves. Nevertheless, are we intentional in including it in our conversations and thoughts, especially when we face life's challenges?

The laws were given not to guarantee us a place in heaven or as a prerequisite for Christian living. It describes God’s moral will and standard. Jesus quoted many of these laws when He had to make choices or defend His actions. We need to follow Christ's example. May we resolve in our hearts today to read, meditate and follow God's laws diligently in our lives in response to His love and grace to us.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for Your laws which serve as guidelines to pursue a relationship with You. Holy Spirit, please help us live a life led by You, to keep the laws in our heart and walk like Jesus. Bless our day, in Jesus' name. Amen.

About this Plan

Through the Bible: Deuteronomy

Deuteronomy is the final heart-pouring sermon of the dying Moses to the second generation of the Israelites, retelling the salvation history of their forefathers and the ways of life through God’s words as they enter into the Promised Land. The book ends with Moses calling readers for a decision: curse and death by disobedience or blessing and life by loving the Lord. Likewise, which will you choose?
