DAY 7 OF 7

The WHY Has A Name

Devotion:

There is nothing worse than a self-obsessed bride. A bride more focused on herself than her bridegroom is the start of an unhealthy marriage. The Church is the Bride of Christ, but we must never be more obsessed with how we look than the one who we are looking beautiful for. As the Bride, we need to be prepared, ready and quietly confident in who we are; expressing our love for Christ Himself, as well as inviting as many people as possible to the great wedding feast. ‘That my house would be full’

The Great Commission (Matthew 28:16-20) is WHAT the Church is called to do.

This is still the mission. To go into all the world, preach the gospel and make disciples. The mission never changes; the way we deliver it should always adapt.

We are not meant to be restrained and limited; we have a job to do. A mission. A role to play. A God-given purpose.

To be a Church that will be creative and innovative in sharing the life-changing message of Jesus Christ to our community, to the surrounding area and the nations. To be influential, far beyond our natural limits. To regularly see lives transformed through a clear invitation to encounter Jesus. To be a catalyst to help believers mature in their faith and become fully equipped to lead others.

That is WHAT we do, but WHY do we do it?

It is never about buildings or systems or programmes.

It is not about apps or branding or design.

It is all about Jesus; loving Him, following Him, and learning to walk the way He walked.

And when we say it is all about Jesus, what we really mean is, it is all about what Jesus did for us. He gave us all full access to God.

Pointed us to His Father God, His gift of life, His creation, His son, His sacrifice, His way, His truth, His life, and ultimately it is His Church.

If you forget everything else, remember this:

To keep it simple.

Follow the example of Jesus

Who lived a simple life.

Spoke simply.

Told simple stories.

Sat and ate with people, every kind of person.

Encouraged His followers to travel light.

And when challenged about what was the greatest commandment? He simply said:

Love God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength and love your neighbour as yourself.

Jesus is WHY the Church “does what it does”. It is only through Him that we see broken hearts restored, lives transformed, relationships healed and families made whole.

The Church at its simplest, leads people to life-fulfilling relationship with Jesus.

Day 6

About this Plan

Simply Church

I LOVE MY CHURCH. People talk about what they love. They love their spouse, love their children. Or they love their job, sports team or pet, but how many people say they love their church? My prayer is that as you follow this plan, you may re-discover your love of the church and its purpose. Helping our churches today to be authentic, mirroring the original church. That is Simply Church.
