What Is God's Plan for My Life?

DAY 5 OF 6

Clarity Comes Through Obedience

I ended up saying yes to a role with FamilyLife, and I started the process of moving from Nashville, TN, to Little Rock, AR.

I remember being asked, “Why do you feel God has called you to FamilyLife?”

“I don’t know,” I said. “I don’t really feel called to FamilyLife. I just feel like this is what God wants me to do to obey him.”

While it didn’t feel like a solid answer at the time, I realized later that I was taking a step in the right direction. A step of faith.

Sometimes we get so distracted trying to figure out the entirety of God’s plan that we ignore the simple steps of obedience He puts in front of us.

Moses was scared to go before Pharaoh. He wanted a sign letting him know it would all work out, but instead, God said, “and this shall be the sign for you, that I have sent you: when you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall serve God on this mountain.”

The sign would arrive after He obeyed. AFTER Moses went before Pharaoh, risked his life, and freed the people from Egypt, THEN he would have his sign.

For us, too, sometimes it’s after taking many steps of faith that we can look back and understand God’s plan. Clarity comes through obedience.

Rather than praying for clarity, ask the Lord to give you the faith to take the next little step He has put in front of you.

One day you might just look back and realize what God’s plan was all along.

Pray: Lord, it is easy to get caught up trying to figure out the big picture. Yet, it is often the little steps of obedience that make the most significant difference over time. Please give me the courage to take the next small step of obedience today. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
