Friendship for Girls: Teaching Healthy Habits to Our Daughters

DAY 4 OF 7

Obey the Nudge

“Can I pray for you in any way?” Kate texted. Her message arrived early one morning when Scarlett was feeling particularly sad. Kate always seemed to sense when things weren’t quite right. Her notes were often perfectly timed to arrive just before Scarlett had to face something hard. Scarlett smiled through tears as she read Kate’s message, loving both her and Jesus at that moment.

It wasn’t surprising that Kate almost seemed like a mind reader. She always seemed to listen to God’s nudging and to be particularly gifted at reaching out in compassion and care to those around her. Her perfectly timed notes reminded her friends that they were not alone, that God sees them, and that he loves them so much that he nudges their friend Kate to reach out.

Isn’t someone like Kate a wonderful friend to have? We can all learn from Kate. How? We start by asking God to nudge us with a thought when he wants us to check on a friend. When we listen to that thought or little voice in our head, we’ll be amazed to later find that our action was perfectly timed.

Being God’s representatives is important, but sometimes our chance to obey is short. If we put it off, we may forget to do it. We don’t want to get so distracted by our daily tasks that we ignore when we are asked to encourage our friends with a little note or text message. Obeying God’s nudge allows God to bless others through us, serving as his representatives in the lives around us. It requires listening to that still, small voice in our heart and then being willing to set aside time out of our busy days to obey. It is always worth it.
