Learning to Be Compassionate: 6 Kid-Friendly Steps

DAY 6 OF 6

Taking Love to the Ends of the Earth

The Big Idea: God tells us to take the good news to the ends of the earth. While we may not be able to physically visit every country or place, we can always pray!

Changing the world starts with your family. For five days, you’ve worked at creating a more compassionate family. We hope that the idea of changing the world one person at a time feels possible and exciting!

God has called us to take the good news to the ends of the earth. In Mark 16:15 (NIV), Jesus tells his disciples to “go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.” Telling others the good news of Jesus and how they can be with him in heaven is the ultimate act of compassion.

However, traveling all over the globe may seem like an impossible feat. While we can share Jesus with those around us, what about those living in other countries? We can show compassion for them through prayer.

Where in the World?

Choose a country to learn about as a family. Then take some time answering these questions:

  • What part of the world is interesting to you?
  • Do you know someone who lives in a country far away?
  • What kind of food do you think they eat?
  • How could we learn to pray for people in that country?

Explore the World at the Dinner Table

Dinner is a great time to sit down as a family and explore other countries around the world. First, pick a country, and then gather these supplies:

  • Music from your chosen country.
  • Photos and a picture of the country’s flag.
  • Poster board or paper.
  • Markers.

Play the music from the country you’ve chosen. Then, consider:

  • How does this music sound compared to what you normally listen to?
  • What’s similar? How is it different?

Share pictures of the country. Discuss what you see in the pictures and how the images compare to what you see in your own country.

Then, use your posterboard to create the country’s flag. On the flag, write what God loves about the children in the country you chose and about kids everywhere.

Take some time to pray for the country you chose. Pray for safety, protection, friends and shelter for the kids who live there. Place your flag somewhere prominent and continue to pray for those children daily.
