UNPACK this...Chiefs vs. Buccaneers Super Bowl LV

DAY 2 OF 5

"The Next One"

Before Kansas City Chiefs’ head coach, Andy Reid won his first Super Bowl, there was a large contingency of fans who were cheering for him to get a ring. He finally did in his 222nd win at the end of his 21st season!

In response to receiving the long-awaited Lombardi Trophy, Reid said, “I’m really excited about it. You get one, you want to go get another one. But we’ve got to backpedal for about a minute and enjoy this one and [then] we’ll get busy on the next one.”

After all those years of wanting to win that first Super Bowl ring, it’s interesting how one isn’t enough for a competitive and hungry coach like Reid. Now he’s eager to try and do it again!

So many of the things we chase in life will never fully satisfy us - even when we attain them. They will give us temporary happiness and a sense of accomplishment, but the feelings of excitement eventually wear off and we start thinking about “the next one.”

The only way to have lasting joy, peace, and fulfillment is through Jesus Christ. We can hunger and thirst for things apart from Him, but they will be temporarily quenching.

The story of the Samaritan woman at the well in John 4:7-14 reveals the perfect imagery of what our souls are truly longing for. The deep-soul satisfaction we search for is available to us through Jesus.

As Matthew 5:6 tells us, “Blessed [joyful, nourished by God’s goodness] are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness [those who actively seek right standing with God], for they will be [completely] satisfied.”

Proverbs 19:23 says, “The fear of the Lord leads to life, and whoever has it rests satisfied; he will not be visited by harm.”

Although pulling off a Super Bowl win and having victorious moments of our own bring immediate gratification, we must be aware that they always fall short and leave us wanting more.

Thankfully, Jesus offers us Himself and is truly all we need. Today, let’s rest completely satisfied in Him…and not worry about “the next one.” I’m Bryce Johnson and you can UNPACK that!

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, thank You for creating me to know Jesus and experience the soul-satisfaction found in Him. I rest in Jesus and pray in His name, Amen.
