Kingdom Value – God Desires to Speak to Us!

Old Covenant Reality

If you read through the Old Testament, you quickly realize something… Only certain ‘special’ people heard from God. If the ordinary man wanted to know the mind of God on a matter, he had to consult a prophet or a priest. Even kings did not have any preferential access to God. Repeatedly, throughout the Old Testament the kings would consult the prophets before making major decisions, particularly regarding strategy and tactics for war. 

New Covenant Reality

In Hebrews 1:1-2 it says that long-ago God spoke to our fathers through the prophets but now he has spoken to us through Jesus! There is now one mediator between God and man - Jesus Christ! And through the Holy Spirit, Jesus the high priest speaks to every one of us! We can all hear from God! The prophet Isaiah was speaking about us when he prophesied:

Isaiah 30:19-21 (ESV)

19 For a people shall dwell in Zion, in Jerusalem; you shall weep no more. He will surely be gracious to you at the sound of your cry. As soon as he hears it, he answers you. 20 And though the Lord give you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, yet your Teacher will not hide himself anymore, but your eyes shall see your Teacher. 21 And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left.

The wonderful New Covenant truth is that we do not and should not have to rely on anyone to hear God for us anymore. We can all hear Him, and He is speaking to every one of us on a daily basis! That amazing idea or solution to a problem that you woke up with is the voice of God! That verse that jumped off the page and burned in your heart is the voice of God!  That vision for your future that seems so far-fetched, yet you cannot shake it is the voice of God!

1. Do you believe that God wants to speak to you personally, and that you can hear him?

2. Do you hear from God in various ways such as dreams, inner convictions and Bible readings?
