Steadfast: Pursue TruthSample
Pursue Truth
Ready:
“Pursue righteousness and a godly life, along with faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness.” – 1 Timothy 6:11 (NLT)
Set:
Pursuit is active engagement, setting one’s sights on a goal or prize, a determination to do what it takes to reach the end result. What we set out to do sticks with us throughout the entire process. We all have the drive to pursue inside us; it’s how we’re wired.
Every athlete is pursuing something: earning a scholarship, winning a championship, or landing a contract. As the stakes rise, the drive behind that pursuit intensifies. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but what if we’re spending too much energy pursuing things that don’t last? What’s important, and where do we find God amid all the straining forward?
Much like we pursue our goals in sports, God does the same with us. He pursues us. He loves us and accepts us as we are. Success is no longer defined by our skills. With Him, we can leave the pressure of performance behind. With Him, we’re already a winner. His sacrifice for us gives us significance. We have a new purpose when we play.
Through the redemption of our sins through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, God brought us to Himself and there are no longer any barriers. We are free to live in communion with our Creator and now nothing can separate us from the love of God.
It’s important that we know what we really need in our lives. The Bible is clear about what it is: a relationship with Jesus Christ. Jesus is the Truth, and in a world where nothing seems to be certain, we can trust that God’s Word is absolute Truth and never changes. When we Read the Truth, we anchor our faith in God’s character to withstand the storms of life’s circumstances. When we Pray the Truth, we come closer to God through personal communication that lets us learn more about who God is. And when we Reach for Truth, we invite others into the journey with us, creating accountability that sharpens and directs our faith walk.
Through God’s Word, prayer, and accountability, we can pursue the mission He has paved for us, and frame that mission around the certainty of salvation and God’s involvement in our daily lives.
Go:
1. What are you pursuing in your life?
2. Why is it important to know what you pursue?
3. How can you pursue the mission God has for you?
Workout:
Psalm 145:18
John 8:32
1 John 5:20
Overtime:
“Dear Father, thank You that You first pursue me. You don’t let me go, and You long to bring me into a closer relationship. Help me to open my eyes to see You in the details of my day and share Your truth with a world that needs to know. Amen.”
