Don't Waste Your Life

The people throughout history that have made the biggest, most indelible marks weren’t great at everything. But they’d grown extremely good at a few things. And for us Jesus followers, we’re not called to be masters of everything, but to be mastered by one thing: Jesus himself. 

If you want your life to count beyond yourself, aim higher than mastering your craft. You can win the CrossFit games, yet lose your soul. You can be a decorated Olympian, yet forgotten in eternity. On the flip side, you can be a mediocre marathoner or a middle-aged gym rat with a dad bod, yet leave an impact that ripples through eternity. 

Doesn’t that kind of impact sound better than chiseled abs? You want your life to count. I know you do. That’s why you’re working through this devotional! I want your life to count, too. 

And whether you’re in the gym or on the pitch, work hard. Don't give half your effort. Leave it all on the floor every day in the pool, with your nutrition, and with your faith. You won't be healthy with a half-hearted effort. To show up to the gym and walk through the motions is a waste. If you're going to do that, just don't go! Similarly with our faith, God doesn't demand half of our hearts. He wants all of us!
