Light and Darkness

DAY 4 OF 14

The world is blind to the light

When the first human couple was created, they had a close relationship with their Creator. They knew Him personally. But their disobedience damaged this relationship, and since then, many people have turned their back on the Lord. They have lost the connection with the true light, and thus live in darkness. They have become spiritually blind: “The god of this world [= Satan] has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God” (2 Corinthians 4:4).

This is exactly what John records about the coming of Jesus Christ in the flesh. Jesus is God the Son, and through Him everything was created. And yet, when He became man, the world did not recognize Him! When Jesus preached and did miracles, some people believed in Him. But many others remained blind. They did not see the light, or did not want to give up their life in darkness.

So, is the situation hopeless? No. God sends His children as messengers into this world, “to open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins” (Acts 26:18).

Are your eyes opened, and do you recognize Jesus as our Creator and Lord?

About this Plan

Light and Darkness

Immediately in the first chapter of the Bible, we read how God created light. And further on in the Bible, light is often used as a metaphor for God’s domain as opposed to the domain of sin and death. Jesus even calls Himself “the Light of the world”. Light and darkness thus have an important place in the Bible. This reading plan presents a selection of verses about this topic.
