Wives Who Win: How to Win in Your Marriage God's Way

DAY 1 OF 5

Winning in Marriage Through Like-mindedness

“Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind.” Philippians‬ ‭2:1-2‬ ‭NIV‬

In marriage, one of the ways the enemy attempts to defeat you is through your mind and another is through your heart. If he can control the way you think and feel about a thing, he can control you and the relationships around you.

Satan wants you to believe lies and half-truths about your spouse and marriage. He is a deceiver and contributes to the fear that you have when there is a small disagreement or argument. He uses those opportunities to plant seeds of doubt and unbelief in your mind and heart causing you to question the person you married and if the marriage was truly a “match made in heaven”. He wants to consume your mind with ungodly thoughts about your spouse and marriage through manipulation and deceit, and through your heart with bitterness and resentment. He does this in hopes that you will choose to walk away rather than work through challenges and adverse moments that most couples face.

Satan hates marriage and will do everything in his limited power to destroy it.

The Apostle Paul knew how important it was for believers to be like-minded. Although, he was speaking to the church of Philippi in Philippians 2:1-2, this scripture is relevant to marriages as well. Having the same mind is not having the same viewpoint, opinion, or attitude about everything. It means to agree or to be as one on the things that matter most.

When you have the same mindset concerning marriage, you will not be easily moved or disturbed by Satan’s tactics. When you have the same mind, you understand the purpose and plan for marriage and use moments of misunderstanding and conflict to draw closer rather than pull further apart. When you share the same mind about marriage, it is much easier to share the same love and affection toward one another, even in uncertainty.

Reflection:  How can practicing like-mindedness in your marriage help you to overcome adversity and challenges?

Day 2

About this Plan

Wives Who Win: How to Win in Your Marriage God's Way

Too many have taken marriage into their own hands, even Christians, in trying to navigate through this relationship system that God designed. Marriage was not meant to be hard, miserable, or sad but the exact opposite. For couples to truly experience marriage God's way, they must include him. In this devotional, Treal Ravenel takes you on a journey of how to do marriage God's way.
