What Am I Doing Here?

DAY 2 OF 3

 WHAT AM I DOING HERE?

Broken

Day 2

Why is it we often have to become broken, like the biblical characters King Nebuchadnezzar, Sampson, King Solomon,  and so many others, in order to see that our priorities are way out of order?

I’m so thankful God loves us enough to get our attention. God speaks the loudest to me through His whispers and nudges, whispers and nudges that remind me my focus is off.

In my experience, it’s nothing short of miraculous how my entire mindset changes when my focus is on Jesus. I somehow see and hear things more clearly. I feel with more compassion. I listen better. I pause before I speak. My words are gracious, seasoned with salt. I want to serve others. In fact, it’s a joy to serve others. I yearn to give what God has given me to be used for His Glory. I have purpose in everything I do. I sense His Presence. I know I am His. I desire others to know Him as I do.

If you’re like me, though, often the minute I lose focus, I catch myself being self-centered, quick-tempered, and worldly, among other qualities that are anything but Godly. Before I know it I've lost sight of my purpose. Just like that, it's all about me, and not Him.

Part of this downfall is my own spiritual immaturity. But there is also another reason I, and others who follow Jesus, lose focus.

Be prepared! As you walk in the Spirit doing what you are called to do, your enemy, the devil, is looking for any and every opportunity to devour you. But in the name of Jesus, we have the authority and the power to defeat him every single time. He is not, and will not be, victorious over us. Don't ever let his whispers convince you otherwise. When you do lose focus and do what you don't want to do, or don't do what you know you should, keep this in mind: it’s never too late to do the next right thing.

I am in no position to preach to anybody. My hope is to help somebody out there who struggles, like me. I’m also writing this as a reminder to myself, something to keep me accountable in my daily walk.

Thank you, God, for going before me! And thank you, God, for always being right here with me!
