Marriage

DAY 3 OF 5

Marriage

By Bryan Craig

Scriptures: “The Lord God said, ‘It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.'” Genesis 2:18

“For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.”  Genesis 2:24

Thought:  Interesting that even though Adam, the first man, was living in communion with the Lord, God had something more in mind. God’s love comes to us, and it always requires expression outward. God is a God of community relationships. Perhaps it comes out of His own nature, a triune God made up of three key persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Each person lives and breathes and acts together in perfect unity.

So, God has given us the gift of marriage to take two beings, unite them, and then, they become something greater than they were as individuals.

Application:  Do we really understand and appreciate the sanctity of marriage?  Have we really given ourselves to our spouses in such a united way that we operate as one?

This reminds us of the marriage triangle, with God at the top of the triangle and man and woman on the two lower vertices. If the man and woman move up toward God, they grow closer to each other.

So, are you and your spouse moving closer to God and to each other?  Are you one flesh?

Write your thoughts in your journal.

Response:  If you are married, and you feel like your marriage has drifted from its passion and purpose, ask God to renew your vows. Perhaps your marriage is good, but you haven’t taken time to celebrate this gift. Plan a special date night and rededicate your love to your spouse.

Is God asking you to do anything regarding your marriage?

About this Plan

Marriage

Marriage is a sacred creation by our Father in Heaven. Scripture is full of instruction for our marriages. God knew that it would not always be easy, but it is clear that He holds marriage in high esteem. Let's explore what God has to say about marriage and along the way, see what He might have to say to us about our marriage.
