Trusting God in a Financial Crisis Sample
Day 1—God loves when we come to Him in faith.
And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. — Hebrews 11:6 (NIV)
One of the great privileges of my life is being a father to three incredible boys. A few years back, we had what I like to call a situation. The boys misplaced the TV remote, which sent them into a panic!
I chuckled at this, but later, I realized that we often have the same response when it comes to faith. We misplace it or forget that we even have it. And then, sometimes out of nowhere, we’re hit with a crisis that forces us to reconnect with our faith—and to God, who’s the source of our hope and our security.
Tough times have a way of pushing us closer to God because we’re reminded of our need for Him. And as Hebrews 11:6 teaches, we must come to God believing that He exists, and that He will reward those who seek Him earnestly.
Few things test our faith the way money does. It’s hard enough to trust God with day-to-day financial pressures, and times like the 2020 shutdown fill us with a lot of uncertainty. And uncertainty left unchecked creates anxiety. I know—I’ve been there.
But the good news is that God’s Word, our deepest source of wisdom and hope, has a lot to say about money. Yes, you need a budget. You need practical advice. You might even need to meet with a financial coach.
But before you try to take control of anything, the first (and most important) step to handling your money well is to come to God in faith and ask for His help.
As we wrap up, take a few minutes to ask yourself these questions:
· As you look back over your life, think about where you’ve placed your faith in the past. What makes you feel secure?
· What would it look like to completely trust God with your money?
I hope that, over the next week, we’ll use this opportunity to repent of how we’ve doubted God. Let’s ask Him to renew our faith as we learn what His Word says about money.
