Live Free: A Study of Galatians

DAY 1 OF 18

You are hard wired to seek freedom. We all are. Throughout history, every human that has walked the face of the earth has desired freedom. We may seek freedom in different ways and in different forms, but each of us naturally resists the fetters and restrictions we feel placed on us in a never ending pursuit of freedom. Some seek it through climbing the corporate ladder, while others pursue it in nature. Some strive to find it through social outings, while others look for it in solitude. Those of us with a minimalist inclination try and live simple lives, while many seek fulfillment in the acquisition of the next tool, house or time saving gadget.

Doesn’t it all end up seeming a little meaningless? The author of Ecclesiastes was a king with wealth and wisdom beyond our imagination. He sought freedom in virtually every way possible. In the end he concluded, “everything is meaningless... completely meaningless” (Ecc 12:8, NLT). Deep in the innermost parts of ourselves, we know that the source of meaning and freedom in life can’t come from within.

If you have come to the end of yourself, realizing you can’t secure true freedom on your own, then this Bible study has the potential to change your life. The book of Galatians is a treatise on how to live free. Over the next few weeks we will discover how every chapter and verse is building a case for finding our freedom in Christ!

The apostle Paul, the author of Galatians, introduces this theme immediately in the first few verses when he writes that Jesus “gave Himself for our sins to deliver us” (Galatians 1:4). Jesus gave Himself for you... so you could live free! Regardless of where you are in life, in spite of your past, your present or your perceived future, this book contains numerous promises and a road map to help us step into the freedom we have longed for our whole life.

Reflect:

In what areas of your life do you need to experience the freedom God has for you?

Respond:

Take a moment to ask Jesus to help you live free!
