DAY 1 OF 7

Let God's Will Be Done!
by Rev. Roger Woller

We are encouraged to ask God to help us and to be with us when trials or sadness come into our lives. Trials come into our lives each and every day. Life doesn’t always go the way we want or the way we had planned.

As a result, doubts come to our minds as we wonder if there is a God or if God really cares what happens to us. These doubts cause us to feel sick during our journey on the sea of life. Doubts are not good for us, as they can weaken or even destroy our faith.

That is why James was encouraging us to “Let God’s will be done” in our journey through life. We are not supposed to come to our God without doubting but instead knowing that He will help us according to His plan—not ours.

I don’t always know what is best for me, though I might think I do. When I think that way and am filled with doubt, I forget to add to my prayers for help a very important thought: Not my will Lord, but your will be done.

That is why the advice that James gave us is so very important as when you are told you must believe and not doubt. The ones who doubt are like a wave on the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.

To endure troubles requires wisdom. We don’t always have that wisdom. We also don’t know how to handle it. So ask God. Trouble can guide you into the arms of God. We need to let God’s will be done. In this way, we’ll find the joy of having a heavenly Father who loves us, a Savior who died for us, and a God who is going to meet our needs.

Prayer: Dear Father in heaven, into your hands I commit myself each and every day. You know what is best for me. Guide and direct me according to your will. Help me to pray as Jesus did in the Garden of Gethsemane, “Not my will but your will be done” Amen.

About this Plan

Make Every Day Count

Life is simply too short to keep the good news of Jesus to ourselves. Every day there is evidence of how much God loves you and every day there are people who need to hear how much he loves them too. Straight from God’s Word, this 7-day devotion series shared by The Lutheran Home Association’s chaplains, will help you live out God’s love wherever your day takes you.
