UNCOMMEN: Freedom

DAY 2 OF 5

Sets You Free Indeed

Face it...we have trust issues. That may be a valid point when it comes to trusting other people. But Trusting God is on a whole different level because God is entirely trustworthy. When God says he's going to do something, you can trust that he will. When God says you are something, you can believe that you are indeed that.

As our verse tells us, "So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed." So the question is, "Do we live like we have been set free?" As I write this devotional, we are all on lockdown due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. But I feel as FREE as the day I accepted Jesus as my Savior because my freedom is a perspective and not a location.

I asked someone how they were doing during this "Stay Home" mandate, and the person used the word "Trapped" when describing their time at home. I said, "Trapped?" I then tried to change this person's perspective from being trapped to more realistic and positive words like secure, protected, safe, etc.

Paul wrote Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, and Philemon all from prison. If you've read those books, you may know Paul is in prison, but it's not a pity party. He was leading people to Christ right there in prison. Philippians 4:4 "Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice." That is a man who understands freedom is in Christ and not in his surroundings.

With that in mind, how are you viewing your freedom? Are you focused on your situations and surroundings? Or are you focused on the one that can offer true freedom no matter the location or surroundings?

"Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice."

Uncommen Questions

Would you say you are free in Christ today?

If so, do you live like it?

Uncommen Challenge

I challenge you to reexamine your view of your freedom. Do you connect your freedom to your surroundings? Or do you connect it to your trust in Christ Jesus?

About this Plan

UNCOMMEN: Freedom

Join us as we look into the topic of Freedom and how we apply it to our time, what we read, how we speak, even how we trust. We are free to do many things in today's culture. But do we take advantage of those freedoms and do we consider how they Glorify God?
