Noel, Noel / Come and see what God has done / Noel, Noel / The story of amazing love / The Light of the world / Given for us / Noel
When God sent His son as a baby, no one knew the birth of this child set into motion God’s epic plan to redeem mankind. Today, this is not only where His story begins, it’s where our story begins, too. While we were yet sinners, God decided to send a Savior for us. And while He did it in the smallest of forms and the unlikeliest of ways, His perfect plan was unfolding all along. Two thousand years later, it’s easy to see the bigger picture. Looking back, it’s easy to trace the fingerprints of God’s larger purpose at work.
When we reflect on the past, we can see God’s faithfulness more clearly. We can remember how He’s come through for us and how He’s uniquely woven His plan into our lives.
The 33 years of Jesus’ life on earth were marked by a multitude of “awesome deeds,” anchored by His unwavering obedience to His father. His birth, His life, His death and His resurrection were all a part of God’s master salvation plan.
Born to suffer, born to save / Born to raise us from the grave / Christ the everlasting Lord / He shall reign forevermore
God was writing an unforgettable, unexpected story from the very first line: “And she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.” (Luke 2:7, NIV)
There wasn’t even room for Him inside, but God’s plan could not be thwarted. Flesh and blood. Just like me and you. He came as a baby so that He could touch and see and smell and experience all that life brings. The good, the bad, the unjust, the hard. He lived it all. This story of amazing love began by God taking human form, and it ends with God taking the ultimate punishment. All for us.
This Christmas, may our hearts prepare Him room. May we see the scars on His hands and remember His sacrifice. But most importantly, may we worship the baby who came so long ago with childlike wonder. Come and see what God has done.
Throughout the Christmas season, how can you make room for Jesus and reserve time to reflect on His faithfulness?
