Scaling Leadership with Biblical Wisdom

DAY 1 OF 8

Biblical Wisdom

The English language is tricky and quite complicated. For those of us who only speak English, we don't grasp its complexity. For example, take the word scale or scaling. Open your browser to Dictionary.com, and you will see that these two words have a lot of meanings.

scale

noun

—each of the small, thin horny or bony plates protecting the skin of fish and reptiles, typically overlapping one another.

verb

—weigh a specified weight

"Some men scaled less than ninety pounds."

verb

—climb up or over (something high and steep)

"Thieves scaled an 8-foot fence."

Those are all accurate definitions of scale or scaling, but it is not the definition I’ll use when I talk about Scaling Leadership. The best explanation I could find was from the MacMillan Dictionary when I looked up the phrase "scale up."

The definition, or meaning, for scaling I’ll use in this Bible Plan is:

—to make something more substantial in size, amount, etc. than it used to be

—to make something larger: enlarge, magnify, maximize

"An order this size means scaling up our production capacity."

As followers of Jesus, scaling our leadership using wisdom from the Bible is critical and essential in this day and age. We must enlarge, magnify, maximize, and grow our leadership capacity to navigate the environments we face. Rapidly evolving technology, ever-changing employee and team dynamics, and shifting global economics are just some of the issues we’ll encounter and applying biblical truths will deepen our insight.

But scaling our leadership isn’t just for the workplace. We must scale our leadership at home with our families and in our other relationships as well. It might be a bit extreme, but for the most part, I believe coach Holtz was on to something:

"In this world, you're either growing, or you're dying, so get in motion and grow." — Lou Holtz

We’re either growing or dying. We’re going to scale our leadership or reduce it. Right now might be a good time to get this out in the open—scaling our leadership won't come easy. Making this investment and bringing intentionality to this type of growth will put us in challenging situations and will absolutely push us out of our comfort zones. But if we don't, we won’t be reaching all the potential of what God has in store for us.

"If we're growing, we're always going to be out of our comfort zone." — John Maxwell

Over the past 25 years as a Christ-follower, ministry leader and founder, and business entrepreneur, I’ve found the Bible to be chock full of stories, examples, and practical advice that provides us so much value. It’s time to challenge ourselves by using God’s Word to push out of our comfort zones. Are you ready to scale your leadership? If so, Scaling Leadership with Biblical Wisdom will help you do just that.

Green is the universal color that gives one permission to go. As you navigate your finger to the green arrow, take a moment to prepare your heart and mind by voicing a simple prayer.

God, I stand ready to hear from you. Help me to hear what You’re saying so that I don’t miss what You want to reveal to me on this journey.
