Fully Alive Living

DAY 6 OF 7

Heart Health and Symptoms of a Spiritual Heart Attack

Have you ever experienced tightness in your chest, had trouble breathing or intense pain where you were convinced you were having a heart attack? Whether it’s you or someone you know there are real symptoms that can’t be ignored. Many of these symptoms can be caught early on if we are checking and not ignoring them. We have to stop and evaluate what’s going on.

Everyone needs a heart check every now and then. What one might think are signs of a heart attack can turn out to be your body’s response to stress but often times that’s not the case for everyone. We have to be aware and get things checked out when the signs of a heart attack are present.

Heart attacks are devastating and take the lives of too many individuals. Symptoms of a spiritual heart attack are devastating as well. We stop dreaming. We stop praying. We stop believing. We stop hoping. We stop loving. Instead of embracing life, we analyze it. Instead of pursuing our dream, we settle for something tolerable and predictable. Instead of searching out our destiny, we choose boredom because it simply makes more sense.

As children, we were born with a spiritual compass that knew there was a destiny to live. As adults though, life usually turns into a series of calculated risks. The adventure is removed and the expectation dies. We settle for…well… less.

But as we recognized the reasons why we stopped living, dreaming and believing we can reverse their effects on our lives, pursue our dreams and fight for our destiny. In the same way, we can change the way we eat and exercise that ultimately impacts the health of our heart, we can change what goes in and how we exercise God’s truth to reverse the long term effects of a spiritual heart attack.

What fears or inhibitions are holding you back from living life FULLY ALIVE? Look at your heart. What patterns have you slipped into that are affecting your overall health? What’s going in and what’s going out? Eating, exercise and taking our vitamins affect our physical health. The Word, community and being a part of the local church affects our spiritual health.

What have you stopped hoping for? What have you stopped dreaming about? What have you stopped praying for?

Ask God to show you how to start hoping, dreaming, praying and believing again.
