Trusting God in Times of CrisisSample
How will I meet my needs?
Psalm 23 is one of the most famous Bible passages. It paints the picture of a good and caring shepherd who lovingly takes care of his sheep through a varying landscape, even in “the darkest valley”. The sheep feel secure because of the presence of the Good Shepherd.
From an Africa Study Bible Touch Point:
David’s childhood was no different from that of many boys in Africa. He was the youngest in his family, and he spent time looking after his father’s flock of sheep. Like any other young shepherd, he provided for the needs of the sheep. David identified his heavenly father as his Shepherd who provided for his physical, spiritual, mental, and emotional needs.
All of us are like sheep in God’s sight. Just as a sheep has everything it needs after a day of grazing, God will give us everything we need to follow him. Our Shepherd protects and provides for us. We only need to listen for the voice of our Shepherd (John 10:27). When we are tempted to worry about our basic needs, let us pray this psalm instead and thank God for caring for us.
Today:
As you reflect on your life, can you think of ways in which God has been a Good Shepherd providing for your physical, spiritual, mental, and emotional well-being? In your current situation, consider keeping a daily journal of your walk with God through this darkest valley. Each day, note down a past or present sign of God’s presence and blessing.
