Faux Real: Fear Or Faith, You Choose.

DAY 5 OF 7

Faith-Filled or Faithful?

Now there are certainly seasons in life where you will face circumstances that produce fear - the death of a loved one, loss of a job, broken relationships. These battles make it hard to “switch on faith.”

But the apostle Paul teaches us, from his experience, that “switching on faith” is the same as being faithful. Maybe I could say it like this: to be faith-filled, you simply need to be faithful with what you’ve been given knowing that you have a God who is faithful to His word to you.

You see, God’s faithfulness is a constant theme throughout Scripture. It was a faithful God who in Genesis did not give up on Adam and Eve, even though they rebelled against His command. It was a faithful God who was faithful to Noah, even though the whole nation sinned and turned from Him. It was a faithful God who was faithful to Abraham, even though he doubted in his ability to fulfill what God had promised. It was a faithful God who was faithful to Sarah, who laughed in contempt at the promise of God.

The reason fear is effective in keeping the believer immobilized is that fear’s counterpart is failure. Failure, like comparison, will feed our fear and starve our faith. Failure, disappointment, and defeat will always give way to fear and begin to infiltrate all areas of our life like a noxious weed. Failure perpetuates even more failure, producing a negative momentum that, left unattended or unaddressed, will produce a timid life.

However, the best way to combat failure and arrest the momentum it perpetuates in my life is to get a win... somewhere. Knowing I have a spirit of power is exciting,  and knowing I have a spirit of love is comforting, but the fact that I have a sound mind means I can be more strategic than surprised by what happens in life.

This can simply look like being faithful in the small things, like reading the Word daily and honoring others. And much like a seed of faithfulness, it will produce a harvest of faith in our lives.

Every day we are confronted with fear. From financial stability to a global pandemic, fear is experienced more often than we’d like to admit. However, what if the very situations that present the most fear in our lives also hold the potential to build our deepest faith. In this devotional, not only does Adam Smallcombe presents a Scriptural view of faith but also reveals how to choose faith amidst fear.
