STATIONS OF THE CROSS - EASTER PLANSample
JESUS DIES ON THE CROSS
Darkness consumed the world from noon until three. "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" Jesus cried out. He knew that He would be temporarily separated from God as He took the sins of the world upon Himself. The physical suffering was dreadful, but the spiritual separation from God was the ultimate torture.
Jesus took His last breath after being offered a sponge with vinegar to drink and cried, "It is finished." At that moment, the Temple curtain ripped in two, from top to bottom, and there was an earthquake. Jesus was dead.
Death is hard and uncomfortable for us to handle, especially the death of Jesus. Did the Son of God die? Yes, this was the plan from the beginning. Jesus is the blameless lamb that died to satisfy the debt we owe but can't pay. Jesus paid the price for our sins with His life. When Jesus died, the curtain was torn in two, signifying that the way to approach God directly was open. Christ's sacrifice for our sins made this possible.
