CHAT-A-BOX Pt 6. The Power and Love of GodSample
CONVERSATION STARTERS
Q1) What are some of the ways that young people learn about their identity?
Q2) What are three words that describe who you are?
What does the Bible say about identity?
- God created each one of us in His own image.
So God created human beings in His own image. In the image of God He created them; male and female He created them. (Genesis 1:27)
- God loves us and calls us His masterpiece!
For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. (Ephesians 2:10)
- Everyone who follows Jesus enjoys a new life in relationship with God.
This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! (2 Corinthians 5:17)
- God created us with a purpose.
Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” (Matthew 22:37-39)
And all of this is a gift from God, who brought us back to Himself through Christ. And God has given us this task of reconciling people to Him. (2 Corinthians 5:18)
Discussion Questions
- How does being made in God’s image affect our identity?
- Think about what God says about you in the scriptures we just read. How does it make you feel to know God created you, loves you, and has amazing plans for you?
- How would things change in your life if you based your identity only on what God says about you?
