Wisdom Is Calling

DAY 6 OF 7

Wisdom—the Source of Understanding and Strength

We desperately need solid counsel and sound judgment—wisdom that is effective, efficient, and leads to success. The need is desperate because the human heart cannot be trusted (Jer. 17:9).

How does God impart wise counsel and sound judgment to His people?

· Through His Word (2 Timothy 3:16; Psalms 119:24).

· Through His Holy Spirit who indwells believers (Isaiah 11:2).

· Through the life of His Son (John 13:15; Philippians 2:5; 1 Peter 2:21).

Wisdom is understanding, and wisdom is strength. She lends these qualities to those who choose her as their life’s partner. Understanding is “penetrating insight, the skill of dissecting an issue into its basic parts and seeing right to the heart of the matter.”[1] Strength is courage. Wisdom makes us strong in that it infuses courage into our hearts. A wise person has the courage needed to face difficult challenges and adversaries and the strength to do the right thing.

Study Questions:

· Do you find yourself lacking understanding and strength?

· Where do you seek understanding and strength?

· Reflect on a time when God gave you the courage to face a difficult challenge. Can you see how His wisdom played a part in your courage?
