New to Faith: Allowing God to Transform Your Life

DAY 4 OF 5

Obey God, With All Your Heart

Jesus Christ is not just our Savior. He is Lord, too. And when discussing Lordship, we need to talk about obedience.

When I was 9 years old, my parents decided to move to Manila, the capital of the Philippines. They dreamed of having a better life. But instead, we experienced more hardships than ever before. Moving from place to place, because we couldn’t afford rent. In one location, our bed floated on dark flood water from the typhoons.

High school arrived and I yearned for more. I told my mom that I was done with this situation – let me go to college, get an education and a job, so I could be successful. My mom told me to pray, because God will provide.

She shared with me a verse from Joshua, which talks about success. It says, “Do not let this book of law depart from your mouth. Meditate on it day and night so that you may be careful to do what is written in it and you will become prosperous and successful.” (Joshua 1:8)

Do you want true success in your life? Learn how to obey the Lord.

He did not ask for our obedience to make our lives difficult. Our obedience to Him will give us life to the fullest! As I spent time with God, He showed me His commands. And with each instruction, a promise was also given.

He taught me how to tithe. He taught me how to love my neighbor as myself. He taught me how to give to others even if I don’t have a lot for myself. He commanded us to give, and shared a corresponding promise: “Give and it will come back to you, in a good measure, pressed down shaken together and running over. (Luke 6:38)

As I walked in obedience, the promises came. Our God is a good rewarder! I graduated high school and was told the Compassion International program offered to send select students to college. And I was chosen as one of the few students to go to university…for free!

I am now a physical therapist and an advocate for children living in poverty. I speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves so they too can be released from poverty in Jesus’ name.

Is there an area in your life you need to submit in obedience to Christ? Obedience can be hard, but if we know that His commands are for our good, won’t we obey with joy?

Prayer: Lord Jesus, help me not only to be a hearer of Your Word but also a doer of Your Word. Give me the strength to obey Your commands. Even when I might not understand the reason behind it. Show me how to trust in You fully and to know that these instructions are for my own good. Thank You for being a loving and caring God. Amen.
