7 Days of Experiencing God’s Infinite Grace

DAY 2 OF 7

No help, no hope

Hear me, LORD, and have mercy on me. Help me, O LORD.
Psalm 30:10

Sometimes our anger or frustration comes from a feeling of helplessness. We’re trapped in the traffic, or the turmoil of unresolved family relations, or financial downturns, or company restructuring—and we feel utterly, desperately powerless.

When Jesus died and rose again to reign on high with His Father—He didn’t leave us alone. He sent us an Advocate, Helper and Comforter, the Holy Spirit (John 14:16–17). He’s our ever present help in times of trouble (Psalm 46:1). Ever present. He’s a racing heartbeat away from your stressed-out self. Call out to Him even now for the help, hope and comfort you need, knowing that no need is too massive or miniscule for His power and attention.

Food for Thought: This is war.

Studies show that commuters suffer extreme stress, comparable to fighter pilots flying into battle, or riot policemen. The difference is that fighter pilots and riot policemen have some means of combating the stressful situation. As a driver or a passenger stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic, there really isn’t much you can do. It’s this sense of helplessness that can be harmful to your health. Reset your expectations. If you sit in traffic every day, today’s probably not going to be much different. Try leaving a little earlier, to alleviate worry and time urgency.
