DAY 10 OF 17

BETH EL (בֵּית אֵל)

Beth El means the house of God. In this place Jacob met God. This story began with a big problem faced by Jacob when his elder brother, Esau, wanted to kill him as Jacob had deceived and stolen Esau’s blessings. In this kind of situation, Isaac asked Jacob to run to Paddan-Aram, to the house of Bethuel, Isaac’s father in law, to take the wife from Laban’s daughter.

In the midst of his loneliness and fear, Jacob met God who changed his life. He found that God was with him to protect and bless his life. The following day, Jacob started his day by worshiping God and changing his hard pillow to be a holy altar. He made a promise that the stone would become Beth El, the house of God, the place of worship and the place where he would give his tenth.

After Lord Jesus is lifted up to heaven, He gives us a helper, which is the Holy Spirit. 1 Cor 3:16 says "Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst?". When we are threatened and in the midst of great pressure - just like what happened to Jacob - the encounter with God will bring changes and everything would be better if we really love Him.

Let our bodies become pleasing homes for God, the Holy Spirit, and we may meet Him anytime.
