Listening To The Word - 1 YearSample
Declaring Who God is, by Faith
Genesis 22:7-8
“Isaac spoke up and said to his father Abraham, ‘Father?’ ‘Yes, my son?’ Abraham replied. ‘The fire and the wood are here,’ Isaac said, ‘but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?’ Abraham answered, ‘God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.’ And the two of them went on together.”
There are aspects of God’s nature and his name that we can only learn about through experience and testing. Abraham declared by faith that ‘God himself will provide the lamb.’ At that point there was no lamb, but Abraham declared that which was not, as though it were.
Would we be so bold?
In our walk with God, will we too declare truths about God’s nature, character and name, before we experience them to be real in our circumstances?
Jehovah Jireh, God our Provider, was the name Abraham discovered to be true of God by declaring it first by faith, and then by passing the test that followed. We would prefer to memorize God’s names and skip the tests and faith declarations.
Where do we need God today?
God has provided the final sacrifice in the form of his Son, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world and wants to be in our lives.
Lord Jesus, thank you for your provision of forgiveness, faith and so much more. May my faith please you and bring you glory.
