The God of History
Jeremiah 23:6-8
“In his days Judah will be saved and Israel will live in safety. This is the name by which he will be called: The Lord our Righteous Savior. “So then the days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when people will no longer say, ‘As surely as the Lord lives, who brought the Israelites up out of Egypt.’ But they will say, ‘As surely as the Lord lives, who brought the descendants of Israel up out of the land of the north and out of all the countries where he had banished them. Then they will live in their own land.’ ”
The coming of Jesus our Righteous Savior has brought salvation to nations. However, this prophetic word also speaks to a re-gathering of the descendants of Israel from the “land of the north” and all nations of their diaspora back to Israel. This is not a random post WW II event, but a promise from God that will eclipse the exodus from Egypt in its revelation of God’s nature and His covenant keeping capacity. The millions of Jews who have returned to Israel from Russia since 1990 is another chapter in this promise. God is faithful to His Word. That is very encouraging for us who live by His promises to us in Jesus. We serve a covenant keeping God who directs history!
Lord Jesus, you are my Savior and the Savior of the ends of the earth. Reveal yourself to those who question your existence today.
