Signposts To Christ From IsaiahSample
The New Testament writers takes pains to show that Jesus was of the lineage of David (Matthew 1:1-17). Jesus is the new branch that shoots from the stump of David. While David had a heart for God, many of the rulers that followed him did not. King Ahaz, ruling at the time of Isaiah, was not following God. These words of Isaiah gave hope for a future king from David’s lineage who would truly follow God.
One of the characteristics of this coming ruler was their wisdom and knowledge. Even as a child, Jesus astounded others with his understanding (Luke 2:47). Isaiah identifies the source of godly wisdom as the Holy Spirit. Wisdom is a gift of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:8).
Question: What do you think the wisdom of Jesus looked like in action? How might it look in us?
