Illuminate Advent

DAY 6 OF 10

Illuminate Peace Day 2

Yesterday’s big take away was that peace in the world starts with peace in our own hearts.

Today, we’ll explore what it looks like to widen that circle by fostering peace within our families and our communities.

Let’s start by studying what God’s word says about the peace that Christ offers:

- This peace doesn’t look like the temporary and surface peace the world provides (John 14:27).

- This peace is greater than anything we can even imagine (Phil. 4:7).

- Christ’s peace is made to guard our hearts and minds (Phil. 4:7).

- Christ Himself IS peace and His presence is working with us as we strive to restore relationships (Eph. 2:14).

Christ’s peace is a gift and the best gifts are made to be shared. As we reflect on peace this Advent season, may we be reminded of our role: to actively make peace with others as we await the fullness of God’s peace through the Second Advent of Jesus Christ (Matthew 5:9).

How can you help usher in God’s peace with those you’re in proximity with this Christmas season? Here are some ideas:

· Help a busy friend finish Christmas shopping by offering to watch their kids

· Do something intentional to serve the family member that dances on your last nerve

· Apologize to any friends or family members with whom you have a broken relationship

· Bless a neighbor with a Christmas gift

· Participate in one of your church's outreach opportunities.  Serve with a local    church or community center.

Take Away:

Don’t just read this devo. Make a prayerful, personal commitment. Advent is the perfect time to commit to pursuing peace in your life and that of the greater world as we look ahead to this ultimate time of peace:

“Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away” (Revelation 21:3-4)
