Living Lessons on Setting the Mind

DAY 6 OF 7

Here we see an emphasis on setting our minds on the good things when circumstances are normal. We want these excellent and worthy things to be our focus so that when negatives arise, we are more likely to respond in love and kindness. Recently my 5-year-old grandson, Ryan, tracked mud into the house and onto the carpet. My daughter, Jodi, and I both responded kindly to his mistake instead of blowing up on him.

We make it a practice to look at life the way Paul says in this verse so that when someone blows it, we don’t blow up. Where we set our minds during our daily activities makes a big difference in our responses and reactions when negative circumstances pop up.

Application:

What do you find yourself setting your mind on? Is it mostly negative? Or mostly positive? Begin to catch yourself and turn your thoughts to things of God. Notice if you see a difference in your reactions according to what you have been thinking about.
